Ciara and Seren Lee

Eddy was hit by a dangerous driver at 7.30am on Thursday 5th July 2018 and died in hospital eight days later.

He brought light and fun effortlessly to so many lives. Eddy was a gold standard human, and his death was felt deeply among his friends, family and colleagues.

Our son, Seren Ying Hei, was just two-years-old when his father was killed. In the following weeks and months, I dreaded seeing new photos of Seren and me together.

Our new family portrait was a cruel and brutal reminder of how drastically our lives had changed.

Over time, though, we not only learnt to survive - we began to thrive. Now I see our image together as one of teamwork, pride, strength and happiness.

When I see myself in a photo, I see how quickly I've aged compared to my peers. But when I look at how cute and healthy Seren is, I know every wrinkle has been worth it to ensure he still has the happiest childhood, despite facing adversity in his early life.

I think the journey we've been on gives us a more adventurous approach to life.

We don't sweat the small stuff, and as my wise boy said to me at just four years old, "without darkness there can be no light".
