Two exhibitions, two decades apart.
In 2003, Paul Wenham-Clarke initiated "When Lives Collide," shedding light on the tragic issue of road deaths. This groundbreaking project, featuring real crash re-enactments and collaboration with Roadpeace, made waves in the media and raised awareness. Working was made over a two-year period and was shown at the Gallery@OXO and was covered widely in the media from Radio 4’s Today program to ITN News. It went on to tour the UK and abroad and was thought to have raised awareness and most probably saved lives.
In 2023, RoadPeace invited Paul to revisit the subject for their 30th Anniversary. The new work is in its own way just as challenging as the original and comprises of emotional portraits of road crash survivors and bereaved family members, capturing their raw emotions in fine detail. These images offer a profound glimpse into the human experience, from tears to smiles, forgiveness, and resilience.
Accompanied by deeply emotional written statements, these photographs reveal the ongoing challenges faced by those affected.
The Gallery@OXO was once again the natural choice for this second exhibition, as it is well known for its support of art addressing social issues. The exhibition is going Birmingham in the summer dates to be confirmed. If you would like to have the exhibition come to you, please email Paul at paul@wenhamclarke.com
