We were on holiday in Kent and my daughter’s fiancé, Jason, was driving.
We needed to turn round and pulled across the road.
Sadly, he did so in front of a motorcyclist who hit the nearside of the Megane and, as it was an unrestricted road, the impact pushed the car through 90 degrees and back ten feet.
The impact killed my wife in the front and my daughter behind her, and the motorcyclist and bike were embedded in the nearside doors.
I was devastated, having lost all my family except for my son. My whole world had collapsed, and I felt so alone.
My normally enormous appetite disappeared, I lost two stone and sleep was extremely difficult so I wake up about 3am or 4am, rather than my normal 7am or 8am.
Added to my emotional pain, I also had the physical pain due to my bruised ribs, which lasted at least three months.
Attending local RoadPeace meetings helped enormously because people there know what it’s like to lose loved ones suddenly in a road crash, something that I never understood until it happened to me.
I was given lots of advice and help and, during the hard times, knowing that they were there ‘holding my hand,’ was a great comfort and helped me to come to terms with the new life path that I have been forced to take.
A life sentence until I am reunited with my loved ones when I die.
