Shelagh Bright
It was Good Friday 1984, and Stewart, who was eight-years-old, along with his brother, Andrew, were with three other friends, round the corner in the church car park (where they were practising for Easter Sunday) on their BMX bikes.
One of the friends went across the road and Stewart followed. A car came down the road and Stewart was knocked off his bike.
He was rushed to hospital. I went with him in the ambulance and he was then transferred to the neuro hospital, where he died on Easter Monday.
It devastated the whole family. After three girls, the boys were born on their father’s birthday.
Sadly, RoadPeace wasn’t founded when we lost Stewart, but in the last few years, a friend introduced me to Pauline at RoadPeace, who is the most amazing lady and the support she gives tirelessly to everyone.
I am pleased to be part of the group and particularly the support meetings, which I know help so many of our newly bereaved friends.
